8 facts about your tatas that will make your jaw drop!
(Hey! Quick one, while you read this, why not check your breasts?)
No matter if you're team itty-bitty-titty or team over-the-shoulder-boulder, it's always beneficial to know a little bit more about the wonderful mounds that fill our bras.
We spend every minute of our lives with our mammaries and yet we often don't know too much about them until we absolutely need to. They're our breast friends, so lets find out a little titbit more about our girls.
Here are eight fascinating boobs-related facts that you probably didn't know about your tatas:
-
ON AVERAGE, A WOMAN'S BRA SIZE WILL CHANGE AT LEAST 6 TIMES IN HER LIFETIME
Boobs can change size significantly over your lifetime. Yes, really. From weight loss, weight gain, when Mother Nature comes knocking on your door once a month or when we’re going through ovulation. Oh, and let's not forget pregnancy!
Thats why we advise doing your breast check each month at the same time each month so you don't send yourself into a panic unneccesarily - your girls do change throughout your cycle.
-
MOST WOMEN HAVE A GOD'S FAVORITE - THE 'LEFTIE'
Experts say that many women have a larger left breast than right.
This is one of the more weird facts about breasts. Due to our immune system being more sensitive on our left side, tissue on the left side of our body is plumped, causing the left breast to sometimes be a little perkier and rounder than the right. Boobs don’t have to be asymmetrical to look great, they're sisters not twins after all.
-
80% OF WOMEN ARE WEARING THE WRONG BRA SIZE
Yep, we really aren't getting any better at it either. For years, experts have found that 80% of women wear the wrong bra size. Online quizzes are a helpful way of learning your size at home, but a proper bra fitting in your favorite lingerie store will set you up well. Remember to reevaluate when your body changes - weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy etc. You'll be needing a new bra. In fact some women even need different sizes depending on the time of the month!
-
MEN HAVE NIPPLES AND BREASTS BECAUSE ALL FETUSES ARE FEMALE AT FIRST
Woohoo Girl Power! Every fetus starts as a female, and it isn’t until six weeks in that testosterone starts to take hold. So nips on men are a reminder that they once were just as awesome as we were.
-
YOU SHOULDN'T SLEEP ON YOUR BREASTS, NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL
Sorry tummy timers. But these are facts.
Experts say that it’s better for women to sleep on their backs or side. When we sleep on our chests every night, we can change the shape of our breasts, and force them East, West and down.
Prevention is the best cure so start changing your habits early.
-
THERE ARE EIGHT DIFFERENT TYPES OF NIPPLES
Who knew? We don't just have different sizes of breasts and areola, but nipples too. There are 4 to 8 types of nipples. Your nipples can be flat, protruding, inverted, or unclassified (multiple or divided). It's also possible to have one breast with a protruding nipple and the other with an inverted, making the total combination of nipple types up to eight.
-
NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHY WOMEN HAVE FULL BREASTS ALL OF THE TIME
Another fun fact about your tatas: they are technically full all the time. Scientists suggest that the fullness of our breasts relate back to evolution and the red buttcheeks of our ape ancestors. They argue that over the course of human evolution, permanently full breasts helped females attract mates. Other suggest it could be energy stores, like a camel's hump. So sometimes we're the ape and sometimes we're the camel. Who knows for sure.

SAGGING IS ALWAYS GOING TO HAPPEN AND ITS BEAUTIFUL
As a woman gets older, the ligaments that make up the breast tissue stretch and lose elasticity. As a result, breast fullness is compromised as the underlying support system of tissue and fat diminishes. But we say this is a gorgeous byproduct of a life lived, well, to the full. They made men blush, fed babies and filled our favorite dresses. Let them have a break in their old age.
